Cedric Francis “Mac” MacKilvie
Mac, as he prefers to be known, is an Irish guy, originally from Dublin (Ireland), who moved to Danchester (England) for no real reason other than to see a bit more of the world. He met Aoefe around six months before the start of Series One. His best mate is Bernard, whom he constantly torments for his own enjoyment. He’s more than usually sarcastic, chaindrinks, chainsmokes and chainswears, and is generally seen in a kilt. Up until recently, he worked at the Danchester High Street branch of the Venkman National Bank.

Sophie Aoefe Sunday
Aoefe (pronounced like “reefer” without the “r”) is a mild mannered, always cheerful and a somewhat naive girl, born and raised in Danchester. The same age as Mac, she lived a sheltered childhood - her parents are rich medical consultants, who cut their daughter off financially when she decided not to move into medicine. She attended Danchester University and emerged with no degree whatsoever, leaving her to a not very successful career in a peg factory. Aoefe doesn’t smoke, drinks rarely (though doesn’t hold back when she does) and never swears. She’s currently dating Coop, her best friend is Claire, and she currently works for Dave in his own cafe.

Bernard Green
Bernard is a happy go lucky kinda guy. He’s fairly well off and well adjusted in life, due to his geekdom and supreme skills in anything even remotely related to computers. He is remarkably intelligent, and a nice guy to go with it. He’s older than most of the cast, being in his late twenties, but has that personality to adapt to anyone or anything. He has egregious fashion taste, and seems to think that those pointy sideburns do him favours. They really don’t. He met Mac through a friend at work, and the two hit it off, mostly because Bernard’s easy-going nature allows Mac to torment and manipulate him. Recently, Bernard has set himself up as a freelance computer consultant and web developer to Claire.

Claire Montague
Claire hasn’t had that great a life. Her parents divorced when she was little and had to move around from place to place when her mother needed to work. She was addicted to alcohol in her teenage years and has tried most known illegal drugs at least once. She has battled depression, acute anxiety, chronic self harm and addiction, and fortunately for her it means that her online weblog has received a major following. So much so that in 2008, she was offered a book deal for her blog to be published and received a massive advance. She used this to buy a factory and set up herself as a business along with new colleague Bernard. She is Aoefe’s best friend and met her at university. Claire was tripping on magic mushrooms when Aoefe met her. Aoefe thought her gibberish was a foreign language and took pity on her. The two have been best friends ever since.

Jonathan “Coop” Cooper and Eric Benton
Coop and Eric work at the Danchester music superstore Music Town. They’ve worked there since the beginning of this year. The two are practically two sides of the same person - Coop is neurotic, anxious, anal retentive and somewhat narrowminded, whereas Eric is far more laid back and open. The two are obsessed with music and more or less everything they do is based upon that obsession, making them perfect record store employees. Coop recently got involved in a relationship with Aoefe after longing for her every time she came into the store, and the two are fairly happy.

Peaches Harrison
Peaches is a girl well above her own station. Brought up by her hippy parents (who incidentally are big fans of the Boomtown Rats), she longs for the spotlight as a road to the easy life. She was in a relationship with Mac, who, with his steady income, supported her party lifestyle. That, and the fact that an Irish boyfriend was so in last year. When she dumped him, she realised that he was easily manipulated and worth hanging onto until she could find someone better, a view which got her into trouble with overprotective Aoefe. She faked a pregnancy to get him back, while still sleeping with anyone with a pulse to get what she wanted. Mac found out, and after enacting his revenge by humiliating her, she hasn’t been seen since. Methinks it’s not the last we’ll see of her.

Steven Smith
Steve is not only a police sergeant with the Danchester Constabulary, nor the fiance of Dave, but also holds the title of “Aoefe’s One Rebellious Act in University.” The two shared a one night stand back in university. He’s a very laid back person, and rarely takes anything seriously, other than his job (of which he’s very proud) and his partner (whom he loves). Steve’s bisexuality has caused problems in his relationship with Dave who felt threatened by Aoefe reappearing in Steve’s life. However, Steve is a loyal friend and when Aoefe needed a place to stay, he was there to offer without second thought.

Meryl “Merry” MacKilvie
Mac’s sister Meryl is a wonderful human being. She’s a vegetarian, humanitarian animal rights activist studying politics and psychology at Danchester University. She moved here in the summer to see her brother, which caused problems for Aoefe thinking she was Mac’s new girlfriend. She enjoys gigging, getting piercings and tattoos, reading and indeed studying. Despite her rock and roll appearance she’s a sensible girl; doesn’t drink to excess (except for special occasions), doesn’t smoke or take drugs, and hates it when her brother swears. Which is often. If there hadn’t been all that much confusion I imagine that her and Aoefe could be great friends. She’s back in Danchester now after taking a few months off to help the animals in South America.

David Adam Penn
Dave is a fairly serious person, who worries a lot. He and Steve have been together for four years, and accepted instantly when Steve proposed last Autumn. To say he’s serious doesn’t mean he’s not got a wicked sense of humour - more or less the only reason he still employs Aoefe is because her life is like a soap opera to him. Somewhat insecure, he was threatened by the revelation that his boyfriend is bisexual, but has accepted this and is much happier for it. He is the owner of Penn’s Cafe in the student district of Danchester, a mecca to all students at 3am on a Friday night, and as such he knows more or less everyone in the city. Well liked and successful at his job, Dave is a happy chap.
